DIRECTORS STATEMENT

The films idea originated from meeting someone I began working with who was gawky and shy but also likeable. I thought to myself what if this guy meets someone who brings him out of his shell. A women who was mysterious, wild and carefree. I then started playing with the idea that what if this women was also dangerous and it would mean being with her truly would shake him up and see him go from someone that never did anything to move forward from his troubled life to literally fighting for it and becoming a different man entirely. The man he’s been wanting to be.

The project is important to me because it’s a chance for me to learn how to pace a longer film and tell a story that has time to develop and not feel so rushed. To build suspense and suspicion while creating a fun retro themed dramatic thriller. I wanted to make something that people will find suspenseful but also have moments of laughter along with some heart warming moments.

My cinematic inspiration and influences come from a lot of 80’s and 90’s films. The Hitcher being one of my favourites. I watched many films while writing my script and the tone of that film and it’s soundtrack I found very inspiring. I wanted to capture something dark and eery but have a cast you can warm to. A film mostly lit with natural lighting to help capture the tone of winter and really help make the viewer feel like it’s cold and dark but beautiful.

I hope fans of retro style thrillers and fans of thrillers alike will take to my film. My aim was to create a coming of age type of film by someone like John Hughes if he were to make a thriller.
